About Me

My photo
It is second time round mommy2be and I am still feeling as excited and nervous and I did the first time. The last 2 years have been amazing. Being pregnant for the first time and then having Josh. The experience has enriched my life and every day with my precious child is special and a blessing. And now there will be another bundle of joy and a brother or sister for Josh. My little family is growing and Errol and I could not be happier! The joy and love that consumes your life when you have a child is something I could never have imagined. LOVE is all I can say!

Hi Everyone,
I wanted to send everyone thanks on Face book for all the amazing well wishes that are filling my inbox but you cannot send a group email to over 200 people on FB! So, thought I would put my thank you on the bog along with the details.

Sunday the 30th of March I started to feel some slight twinges around 23h00. I went to bed and thought it might just be false labour as I had experienced it the week before. Needless to say the twinges got stronger and by 2h00 I decided to wake Errol and tell him I think its happening!
Errol still did not quite believe me and came to lie in bed more to humour me than anything else. Anyway, as the night progressed and the twinges turned into real surges within minutes apart we both decided that this was actually HAPPENING!

I rang the hospital a couple of times and they said I was probably in early labour and should take my time to come in. By 6h00 in the morning Errol had the car packed and loaded and we were heading to the hospital, the contractions were coming about 4 minutes apart.
Once in our birthing centre the day progressed quite nicely. I had an injection to try and get some rest and was sucking on the gas and air and was managing the pain with Errol and my hypno birthing techniques. Ingrid came to sit with me for a few hours and all was good. During this period my waters broke and we I was well on my way.

By 12h00 they had the birthing pool ready for me and I was ready for the next phase. I was in the pool for about an hour and a half and the pain was becoming really unbearable. I was not progressing any further and the midwife was having trouble finding Josh's heartbeat after every contraction. This was leading to her call a second midwife to get another opinion which was making me feel really nervous and uneasy.
I opted to get out of the pool after and hour and a half to have another injection to try and get me to sleep through the surges and then next hour was a bit of a blurr. I was in serious pain and the there was always 2 midwives trying to find Josh's heartbeat and do examinations.

Things started getting really serious and they decided to move me up to the labour ward. By this stage I was 8 cm's dilated and screaming for some pain relief. Once in the labour ward things happened very quickly. I started telling them they had to get Josh out now and do it quickly!

We ended up having to have an emergency caesarean with me under general anesthetic. Basically Josh was deteriorating rapidly and they had to act fast. Daddy Errol watched everything from outside the theatre and cried his heart out when his boy was taken out. Josh came out feet first and screaming like a trooper!
That was the birth, not exactly what I had hoped for but our beautiful boy is here
He was born at 14h42 on the 31st of March 2008, weighing 3.724 kg's.

It is 2 weeks on and I am finally starting to feel myself again. I have been in immense pain the last couple of weeks and have had a bit of a rocky start. You all know how I like to be in control and able to do stuff, well I just couldn't do anything. Thank goodness for Errol, Ingrid and all the girls who have been on the roster baby sitting me and Josh, cooking for us and just being here for us. A special thank you to Mel who has spent the whole week with me. I really appreciate it.

About Josh:

Josh has been wonderful. He had a little bit of jaundice in his face when I got out of hospital. Nothing to be concerned about and natural light cleared it up in no time. This also made him sleepy which I am quite grateful for because I don't think I could have handled a screaming baby in my state. Unfortunately we cannot breastfeed and he is on the bottle. He is a little tiger and gets so excited when its food time. He lost a bit of his weight and went down to 3kg's but on Friday the 12th was back up to 3.75kg's - I can tell you now, he weighs more than 4kg's and he is looking like a little cherub! He is too cute and chats away to himself all the time. We have been trying to get him into some sort of routine but it’s really not easy, so we are now just doing things slowly and getting to know him and try and figure out what he wants when he wants it. He honestly does not cry much and its more like niggles when we take to long with his bottle. He loves his fingers and if I do not have a dummy in his mouth, he is more than happy to munch his fingers. So far he has been an absolute joy who melts mommy and daddy's hearts daily.

24th March 2008 - The Waiting....

We are 38 weeks and 4 days pregnant now and patiently waiting for Josh to come. I have been on maternity leave for a week now and am getting quite bored. The nice thing is that Errol has been off work for the past few weeks so we have been spending wonderful quality time together which I am sure we will cherish once Josh arrives.
We had our baby shower in London on the 9th of March and were totally overwhelmed by our friends generosity and kindness. We were showered with gifts and only had to purchase a few more items to finally be "ready" for Josh.
The nursery is complete and we love it. We hope Josh will enjoy his little bedroom and I keep imagining him in his little cot. Oh how we wish he would come now... if only we had more control of what day he is coming on. The sad truth is that only Josh knows when he is going to come and in reality I could be waiting for another month! HEAVEN HELP ME IF I HAVE TO!!!
Anyway, enjoy the pics, the little baby grows were made with love by our friends at the baby shower. Love them and will treasure them forever.

28th Feb 2008 - 35 weeks

Not long to go now!!! Errol and I are really really excited now. We have successfully finished our hypno birthing course and cannot wait to put what we have learnt into practise. We both think Josh's birthday is just around the corner, predictions are going for 3 weeks time, around the 18th of March.

I am due to start my maternity leave around the 12th or 14th of March and I am definitely getting ready.

We have nearly got everything we need for Josh's room but have not started putting it all together.

This week I have been bogged down with a cold that has really knocked me. I have spent 3 days in bed just sleeping. Clearly my pregnant body wants rest.

Anyway, here are the latest pics taken today, as you can see the belly is big and its starting to drop!

Keep posted its really not long now!

8th February 2008 - 32 weeks

So much has happened in this new year. Errol and I have just returned from South Africa after a month of travelling. We had 2 weeks in Cape Town, highlight being Clare and Lance's wedding and quality time spent with friends and family. Pregnant Bridesmaid and all! The next week Joberg and the Kruger National Park! Thank goodness those lions didn't mind me getting out the car for my regular toilet stops! Then a week in PE and Cape St Francis to spend time with the rest of the family. I had a wonderful baby shower in Cape Town that was hosted by Nelsch, thanks so much to all you folk who spoilt me and Josh rotten!
I had a few minor ailments that come with being pregnant in South Africa but I am happy to say all infections are cleared up now and I am fit and healthy again. The constant flying was not enjoyable and my bump was really hard after each flight. Not too much water rentention for which I am grateful for but let me tell you the flying was TIRING! I got back last week after 30 hours of travelling and was exhausted! It has taken me a full 2 weeks to feel back to normal. I think going to bed at 9 or 10 every night is also helping things.
Josh's room is coming on nicely. We have our stroller and now just need to get a cot and some other baby stuff. Plenty of time in the next 8 weeks!
Errol and I are on our Hypno Birthing course tomorrow. We are both really excited. I cannot believe Josh is going to be here soon! I have a feeling the next few weeks are going to fly!
Enjoy the pics and I will keep you posted!
